Kela Acquires AI Firm Pelanor After $100M in Funding

Defense technology company Kela, founded in Israel and headquartered in the U.S., has acquired Pelanor, an Israeli artificial intelligence startup, marking its first known acquisition since launching in July 2024.

Pelanor, based in Israel, develops AI-powered mission planning platforms for defense and security operations. Its systems integrate data and algorithms to help military and security organizations make faster, more informed decisions in complex environments.

Kela focuses on building next-generation defense systems that combine software and artificial intelligence.

Since its founding, the company has secured significant investor support: an $11 million Seed round led by Sequoia Capital, a $28 million Series A led by Lux Capital with participation from In-Q-Tel, and an additional $60 million from existing backers.

While financial details of the Pelanor acquisition were not disclosed, the transaction reflects Kela’s strategy of scaling its product capabilities through both in-house development and targeted acquisitions. By adding Pelanor’s technology and team, Kela strengthens its position in the growing market for AI-driven defense solutions.

The deal also highlights a broader trend in defense technology: startups are increasingly filling capability gaps left by traditional defense contractors, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, autonomy, and mission planning.

With Pelanor now under its umbrella, Kela is expected to accelerate product development and expand its reach to government and defense customers across allied markets.
